Strategy & learning point
CACTI is a consonant-heavy plural built from very common letters, but it hides behind the more obvious singular form CACTUS and the usual "just add -S" plural pattern.
There is only one vowel in the word – A – and it appears once, while the letter C shows up twice. When your grid shows a single vowel and several correct consonants, it is worth considering unusual plural endings like -I instead of just trying more words ending in -S.
This puzzle is also a reminder that irregular plurals and scientific nouns (like cacti, fungi, or nuclei) can appear in Wordle. Keeping these patterns in mind can help you break out of dead ends when the usual plural forms are not fitting.
Recommended starter words for today
Here are a few opening guesses that work well toward uncovering CACTI. They help you find the single vowel A, probe the key consonants C and T, and set you up to notice the unusual plural ending.
- CRATE – a solid opener that covers C, R, A, T, and E. Even when some of these letters are ruled out, the feedback gives you a strong base for building desert-themed words.
- TACIT – this guess tests the structure A in the second position and an IT ending, while also probing double T. If several letters light up, you are very close to the pattern in the final answer.
- CACTI – once you have enough feedback to suspect a desert plant theme and see C, A, and T, it is absolutely fine to try the exact word as a finishing guess.
